Why So Shy, Shai-Hulud?
Poem No. 2 from my upcoming book "Songs of the Sietch: 100 Poems About Frank Herbert's Dune, Denis Villeneuve's Dune, and Denis Villeneuve's Dune Part Two"
Why so shy, Shai Hulud?
Why hide yourself in the burning sands?
Why don’t you come up to my place and see me
Give your aching muscles to my practised hands
Every day I look at the clear blue Arrakis sky
And I ask myself, why’s Shai Hulud so shy?
Why so shy, Shai Hulud?
What’s wrong with living the surface life?
Are you afraid I’ll laugh at your teeth?
That at dinner you might use the wrong knife?
Every day I watch the tiny desert fly
And I ask myself, why’s Shai Hulud so shy?
Why so shy, Shai Hulud?
Why can’t we be together at last?
I promise I’ll never get you wet
I swear I won’t judge you for your past
Every day I hear the lonely Fremen cry
And I ask myself, why’s Shai Hulud so shy?
